Happy Hanukkah!

Well, I didn't expect to be back so soon, but all my jobs sorting out the transfer of power and phone, insurances etc to the new property were so much quicker than I expected! This used to take such a long time in the UK, and things always went awry! But here in NZ (much smaller population) things seem to tick along like clockwork, so as long as I haven't jinxed anything with those comments, looks like we're all good to go! Which means, I've got a few minutes up my sleeve to blog another card, yippee!

This one I made for my lovely Jewish pal back in the UK who has just been celebrating Hanukkah with her little girls. We had the distinct pleasure before leaving the UK of sharing one of their Hanukkah celebrations with them, which was such a special time for us all, so I wanted to send them a Hanukkah card this year in remembrance of that.

This lil' cutie is drawn by the fabulously talented Mo Manning and she's called Bekka with Challah. For those who know the traditions related to Shabbat, you'll know how appropriate this image is. I was really pleased when I went hunting for designer paper to complement the way I'd coloured the image, to find the perfect match in a lovely stack of Forever Friends Kraft Notes paper pack.

11415769266_2d118319da_k

I've coloured the image with a mix of my Promarkers and Flexmarkers and for a change haven't used anything else! No glitter glue or glossy accents to be seen anywhere! I have kept the card design incredibly basic, it's pretty much as CAS as it gets! Which is more a testament to how much time I've had to complete my Christmas cards than a design choice. But in this case, I think it works fine, which is primarily down to how fabulous Mo Manning's images are! Very little embellishment is needed with these gorgeous detailed images. On that note, I'm off after one final 'arty' shot of the card. Loads to prepare for our cleaning blitz on the new house tomorrow, so best get organised.

Thanks for stopping in on my lil' blog today. I hope you liked seeing my CAS Hanukkah card and I wish you all Happy Holidays, whatever you are celebrating. Hugs, Wends x

The Christmas Rush

Where does time go I ask ya? My last post was December 2nd, and now all of a sudden it's the 18th! I have had my head down, creating and writing Christmas cards like crazy. There's no hope for most of them to make it overseas in time for Christmas, but at least I tried. I was so determined to make all the cards myself, so I have been a production line of CAS Christmas cards. Gone are my ideas for fancier designs, I just haven't had time! Coupled with my determination to make my own Christmas cards (which I clearly left far too late!) there are also a lot of birthdays in our family in December! So I've been madly making cards for as many of those as possible too. But today, I thought I'd share one of my Christmas makes, as before long, we'll all be tired of seeing those!

11344553206_7ac9428b83_k

This sweet image is from the latest digital release from the Sugar Nellie range at Funky Kits. All the fairies in this latest 'Return to Winter Wonderland' release are utterly adorable and this one titled 'More Hands Make Light Work', is no exception. They're available for instant download, so you can get colouring straight away! My kind of wonderful! :)

11344510655_2c5601bc46_k

I've coloured the image with my Promarkers and Flexmarkers and sprinkled a little Stickles glitter glue around here and there for good measure. Don't you just love the lil' Squirrel? I miss seeing them running along our balcony ledge in our London apartment. They really are such gorgeous little creatures. It's decidely weird that Christmas is days away and the sun is shining (we're thoroughly overheating at the moment!) and the days are long and light! Summer Christmas was always strange even when I was growing up and knew no different. All our cards and celebrations are based on the traditional British Winter Christmas! So coming back after 13 years in the UK and loving the Winter Christmas, this Summer one is taking some getting used to!!!

11343522214_6a68b5baa4_k

I really have been in mass production mode with my Christmas cards, so this was made in great haste with a minimum of fuss, which means not too much bling! Just a fabulous Panduro Hobby paper, which I used as the inspiration for colouring my image and the sweet paper flowers, which were knocking around my stash, one of which was glittered already so just needed a little bling in the centre and they were done. The sentiment has been in my stash for literally years, so it was nice to find a home for that. I thought the colours worked quite well. I inked the edges of the image and sentiment with some new ink I bought recently from a company called 'Close to My Heart' in a shade called 'Ruby'.

I'm not going to say much more, as I still am finishing up Christmas cards. How many of you are still putting together your last makes? Many to go? Or am I the only 'fly by the seat of my pants' crafter in these parts?!!

Have fun lovelies creating your fabulous Christmas celebrations, I may have time to post another card before Christmas, once all my post is sent off! But as we are actually shifting house over Christmas, that may just be a wistful dream! On that note, as I may not get another chance to say...

Merry Christmas to all... and to all a good night xxx

Christmas Fun

I've been having fun yesterday and today with my kiddos, getting little corners set up with our Christmas treasures. So I thought I'd share a couple of photos with you. I'm still to find all the nativity pieces, so that will have to follow later. But I did find the box with my gorgeous Swedish Tomtens, so they have found their little corner and I've set up my gorgeous German snowy village which was a gift from my darling Welsh pals daddy. Love both these little corners in our lounge right now and the tree is glowing beautifully with all the decorations my kiddos put up. They basically trimmed the whole tree between the two of them! First year that has happened. So was a very sweet thing to behold. I haven't found all our Christmas boxes yet, so we're missing our fairy, but at least we had everything else to trim the tree.

I love these Swedish decorations. It's fair to say I have a slight obsession with them, which my Swedish best mate can vouch for! I had us hunting all over Malmö for these treasures to bring home! I think I could still do with a few more, LOL.

I had to add the 'postcard' frame to this, as it really did look like it belonged on a postcard!

This gift is so special and such a treasure for us to look forward to using every Christmas. The story behind it and the memories it represents for us, will stay with us forever.

These two little cuties were bought in Denmark when my Georgie was little and we had been visiting our Scandinavian best mates in Sweden. They have a boy only a couple of weeks older than Georgie. So when I hang these two, it reminds me of that time and those special people in our lives.

It was such a fun and rather surreal moment, when I asked the kiddos if they would like to trim the tree and they both disappeared for a few minutes, arriving back in their dress-up Santa costumes! So sweet and totally their idea! I hope all your Christmas preparations are going well too and you're enjoying the season. I'll be back soon with some cards. But couldn't resist sharing our Christmas adventures today. Hugs, Wends x

Sweet Christmas Wishes

I have a Christmas card to share with you which I made using a fabulous Saturated Canary image. This is from the Little Darlings rubber stamp range and the image is called Candy Canes. I've seen this image coloured up several time in red and I do really love it, but I wanted to go for a soft palette, so I've gone for soft pinks and browns. The candy stripe got lost a little when I added the glossy accents over top for dimension and shine, which is a shame, as it was a nice contrast before this. But I think you still get it's white and pink stripe (right?).

10955597274_9d850f0018_o

I took the above shot in full sun and it has bleached out some of the detail in the image, so have included an 'indoor' shot of the card below for comparison. You can see the gorgeous papers better in the shot below. The lovely pink spot paper is from an old My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pad called Happy Day. The lovely brown stripe paper is Maja Design, from their 'It's Christmas Time' 6x6 paper pad. I love these papers, so quintessentially Swedish! My absolute fav's! Who better to buy them from than the lovely Swede who runs Live and Love Crafts? If you haven't found this fab store yet, follow the above link. Sandy will take great care of you and all your shabby chic crafting needs! :)

The divine border die you see a hint of at each side of the image is a lovely one from Joy Crafts that I purchased a while back from Cuddly Buddly. Their price was really competitive and bonus - they post to New Zealand! So I was so happy to be able to get this gorgeous die as I've seen it on so many of my fav' crafter's makes recently and I wasn't disappointed! Cut into the gorgeous bronze sheen paper I used to mat the image and papers, I was really pleased with this die. In certain lights, you can really see the sheen on the paper too, it's really sparkly and pretty. The image below shows better the pretty sheen of this lovely bronze paper.

10955573334_ae4c3858f8_o

The pretty pink satin ribbon I used was from the lovely Hobby House treats I won from Hazel France a while back. It really is such a pretty ribbon and has a darker tone on the back which you see a hint of in the ribbon loops above. The gorgeous lace I bought a long while back and I can't recall where from, but it's a really pretty guipure lace and similar ones can be found at Wild Orchid Crafts.

10955607834_c846a94b3d_o

I created my swirls of snow around the image using a lovely Christmas tree stamp from Lili of the Valley. The postmark was from their Grunge Christmas Postmarks set. I added a little stickles here and there for sparkle, but essentially that is pretty much the recipe! All the paper edges were distressed using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I love working with these ink pads, they really are fab for distressing papers.

Thanks for popping in on my lil' blog today. If you happened to pop in before I finished this post (I hit the publish button instead of save! Aaargh!!) I hope you get to see the finished version. I hope your Christmas card making is going faster than mine! Snatching moments here and there, but I can see I'm going to have to fall back on some of the gorgeous Lili of the Valley pre-coloured images for some quick makes. Have an awesome day. See you all again soon. Hugs, Wends x

Ballerina Girl

Today's card is one I made for my lovely niece right before she was due to sit her ballet exams. She's doing so well with her ballet at the moment and I wanted to make her a 'good luck' card to wish her well for the exams. So I hunted high and low for an image that fit the idea I had in my head. Nothing I came across was quite right, until I found this lovely image from Jade Dragonne through DeviantArt. Her art is amazing and she very generously allows it to be used for personal projects.

9795778834_ea439989fc_o

The background paper is a lovely digital paper from The Coffee Shop Blog. They have a few very lovely digital papers they offer for free. I thought this paper was a perfect fit for the image. I kept the embellies to a minimum as I didn't want to cover the pretty dancing girls in the paper, so just a Whimsy die-cut corner some adhesive pink lace and a fabric bloom compiled of several petals of varying sizes and finished with a simple brad to tie them together. I added three pink heart pins and some lovely pearl sprays to finish the bloom.

9795811614_61f1c16b1e_o

Jade's ballerina is so beautifully drawn and such a perfect image for my lovely niece's card. In this close-up you can see the FlowerSoft I used on the swan head piece and the floating feathers. I mounted the pretty image onto a Spellbinders Floral Oval mat in candy pink, which I think was just the right finish for the image. The final touch to the card was a lovely 'Lili of the Valley' sentiment stamp from their Inspirational Sentiments set and some flat backed pearls from MeiFlower. Finally I inked all the edges with Angel Pink Memento ink.

Thanks for popping in today. I hope you like what you've seen. Pop in again soon as I'll have more cards to post in the next few days. But today has been all about trimming the Christmas tree here in our house. December 1st, that's our family tradition and this year, there was a tiny elf who helped (properly) for the first time. So I leave you with a couple of pics from that adventure. Hope you're having a lovely weekend. Hugs, Wends x
