Mother's Day with Dream Valley

A very exciting post for me today. It's my first post for the Dream Valley team. I'm so chuffed to have been invited to join the team and have a very sweet first post to share with you today.

Here in New Zealand we don't celebrate Mother's Day until May 11th, so my card for my own beautiful mummy is a wee way off ready yet. But my cousin and his wife have just had their first baby and I think it's entirely appropriate to be sharing this beautiful celebration of motherhood with you, for this challenge.

I have used one of my all time favourite 'New Baby' images from Lili of the Valley called Heaven Sent. The beautiful sentiment which I stamped straight onto the image mat, comes with this sweet stamp. It's such a great image, I feel it needs really no embellishment. So I've kept the layout very raw and honest. Just coloured with my favourite medium, my Promarker pens. I love the way these pens blend and the subtle details that are possible. The gentle shading and great range of colours! I've loved them since I first discovered them. What's your favourite colouring medium?

The heart border was cut with a Martha Stewart border punch and the edges on all the papers were distressed with a Tim Holtz distressing tool. The pretty patterned paper I used is Kaisercraft from the Bubblegum Hills collection.

I added a beautiful sentiment to the inside of the card for this new mummy. I've always loved this quote of Elizabeth Stone's as it really does sum up how it feels when you have children. That a little piece of you walks through this world, as freely as we let them roam, they take a piece of us with them always. Here is a close up of the text, which I printed straight from a word document on my computer. I then trimmed the paper to size and distressed the edges as I'd done on the front page.

Thanks for popping in to my blog today. I hope you're having an awesome day and enjoyed your visit. I'll have more for you soon. In the meantime, check out what my talented teamies from Dream Valley have done for this challenge too. There's bound to be some rather delicious celebrations of motherhood going on. Come join in the challenge and show us what you've done for your mothers day celebration. Hugs, Wends x

Boys To Men with Fab 'n' Funky

A new challenge is launching over on the Fab 'n' Funky challenge blog. This week it's the Funky teams turn and we are being sponsored by the lovely Kathryne of StampArt Designs. The challenge theme has been set by my lovely teamie Kates. She has set us this theme - Boys to Men. So this week we challenge you to make a masculine card for young or old. We are also sponsored by My Creative Classroom, so there are two fabulous prizes up for grabs. Come and join the fun and get your masculine cards mojo flowing.

I have been working with a rather delish design from Kathryne called Polar Bear Cub - Melt My Heart. I knew it was the perfect choice for this current challenge and would work really well as a birthday card for my hubby's upcoming birthday. My lil' guy is three and utterly adores his papa, so this card is a real cutie to make up for him. It's a brilliant stamp, as it would work just as well as a Christmas stamp too.

I've coloured the image with my trusty Promarkers in shades of cool and ice grey with a little warm grey too on the lil' fulla. I added some Glacier Blue Flexmarker too around the image. I thought the name of the marker was so appropriate! The pale colours of the card haven't photographed too well, but in reality, they are really icy and pretty.

I've also used a lovely quote from one of Kathryne's digital sentiment sets called Grab a Hug. I think this is just perfect for this card, such a gorgeous sentiment. You can find her wonderful designs and lovely sentiment sets on the Whimsy Stamps website. She has a sweet new stamp out at the moment too called Sophie. Go check it out.

I used a really pretty border die on this card from Whimsy Stamps too. I wanted it to go around the corner, to create a 'corner die'. So I trimmed the bits that would have been lost behind the sentiment strip and added them up the left side of the card to create my corner. I'm well chuffed with how that turned out. I added a touch of Stickles in Icicle to three of the centres on the die, for a bit of added interest and bling. The paper I cut the die from had a beautiful sheen to it already, so didn't need much embellishing, though sadly it doesn't show up terribly well in the pics.

Here's a little montage of the features on the card to finish. I used another Whimsy die for the 'Daddy' sentiment, which I think fits the theme well. I hunted to find a font that would work with the other sentiment and it's not as close a match as I would like, but at least it's sans serif. The star/snowflake die is from Marianne Designs and I glittered the centre subtly with Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Jewels.

Thanks for popping into my blog today. Go check our current 'Boys to Men' challenge out at Fab 'n' Funky and join us this week for a fun challenge. See you again soon. Hugs, Wends x

Lil' Birthday Princess

I have a quick post to share today. A sweet card I made for my baby niece's first birthday. This little lady is such a cutie and we're very happy to have her in our lives, so her first birthday called for an equally special little lady card. Personally, I can't think of anything better than a delish Sugar Nellie for this purpose. This one I thought fitted the bill perfectly. She is called Birthday Princess and was a digital stamp from Funky Kits. She's no longer showing on their site, so I think they may have retired her. Shame! She's such a cutie.

I coloured the image with my Promarkers (of course!) and added a touch of Diamond Stickles to the balloon for a little bling. I had some gorgeous pale lavender satin ribbon in my craft stash, so made that up into a bow to wrap around the card and added a Lili of the Valley sentiment on similar coloured card, which I had cut into a scalloped circle. I added a doily and scalloped circle from Spellbinders behind the image and finished with layered paper petals that I added a cute birdy button to.

The yummy background paper is from a fabulous Panduro 6x6 paperstack called 'Tis the Season. I bought it when I was still living in London. It's actually a Christmas pad, but I had a vision in my head to combine the red and purple for this card and I think I got away with using this Christmas paper quite nicely. There's a good pic of the paper pad over on a previous post you just need to scroll down to the last of the 'stash' pictures. There's also a card I made using another paper from this pad. I machine stitched the paper in place.

11185395493_b0408d4da5_h

Not much left to mention now, just the pretty deep aubergine pearls I added to the top right and bottom left corners. Such a gorgeous rich deep colour. I'm pretty sure I bought these from MeiFlower. Now only one thing left to mention and that's the cute crown border strip I cut to run the ribbon around. This is a Magnolia die and worked so well for this card, even if most of it is covered!

Finally a standing shot, to give you a better view of the dimensions and details. Thanks for popping into my blog today. I hope you enjoyed reading this entry. Hang around, have a cuppa, browse the back catalogue and I'll see you again real soon. Hugs, Wends x

Some 'Terrific' Pig

I have a treat for you today in the shape of a cute Doodle Pantry image and to paraphrase Charlotte from Charlotte's web "he's some 'terrific' pig".

We have a new challenge at Fab 'n' Funky and my lovely teamie Shirley has chosen the theme of 'Heat Stroke' a Summer or hot themed card. The Doodle Pantry are our sponsors this week and when I found this gorgeous piggy I knew immediately who I'd be making this card for. My mummy's twin sister has a ceramic 'piggy collection'. She just loves them. So this lil' guy was destined to find his way to my darling aunt and as it's Summer here in New Zealand and I have a belated birthday parcel due her way, this was a perfect fit.

So come and meet the wee cutie...

12710374283_ea796468a2_h

Isn't he just too dang cute?! He so reminds me of Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. If I'd had a spiderweb die, I think I would have gone down that road with the sentiment! But alas no. I did however have the cutest sunglasses die courtesy of Impression Obsession. So I added these, inked the centre and added a little Glossy Accents for the glassy look. I'm so chuffed with how it turned out. I think my hot lil' summertime piggy looks so cute under his sun umbrella with his sunnies on! The umbrella die is a Memory Box die, which I cut a second layer of, to get the dimensional effect with the patterned paper. I layered a plain white umbrella beneath and used Pinflair Glue to create the dimension. Love this glue, really brilliant for this sort of thing.

Some Pig

The lovely bulrushes and duckies die is a new one from Joanna Sheen's Signature Dies range and the sweet rustic fence is a Marianne Designs die. I added a sentiment I inked sometime back and trimmed with brown satin ribbon. The fab spotty paper is also from The Doodle Pantry and comes as part of the set with this gorgeous piggy. There is also another paper in the set, with lovely multicolour stripes, but I opted to keep a simple palette and went for a chocolate brown stripe paper from the Honey Cake collection from My Mind's Eye.

Here's a  little montage for a closer look at the details on the card...

Finally, the arty shot...

A Vintage Farewell

Our lovely neighbours from the UK lost one of their parents recently and although, we don't really know them very well yet, we like them very much and wanted to reach out to them during their time of grief. So I made a CAS bereavement card, with a beautiful vintage Japanese screen image, that I've wanted to use for the longest time. It just leant itself so easily for this purpose and I was really pleased with how the card came together.

12919829844_5b7c1d0b85_h

The image comes as three panels, which I separated and mounted on some card that I'd first given a teabag treatment. The originally white card would have looked too stark against the darker vintage hues of the image. I scored the tea stained card to create a border around each screen panel and then mounted the panels with thick foam pads to create dimension. I then mounted the tea stained panel onto the base card, which is a lovely heavyweight cream textured card. The three Japanese screen panels were edged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink before mounting onto the base panel.

12183532026_52dd845b24_h

All that remained was to add a sentiment and as I had scored the tea stained paper, I also scored the sentiment strip and tea stained that too to match the backing panel. The sentiment is a lovely one from The Pink Petticoat set called Simple Sentiments. A perfect choice for the loss of a loved one. Liz has some specials running on her lovely sentiments and digital papers, so pop on over and have a looksy.

I added a couple of folded strips of dark burgundy organza ribbon to the sides of the sentiment strip to finish. This was a very CAS card design but with a vintage touch. I hope you like what you've seen today and look forward to hearing what you think of it. Come back again soon, as I'll have another make really soon. Hugs, Wends x
