Sweet Stampin' ~ One Layer

Hey there my sweet blog pals. Well it's been an interesting week! I should be throwing my soon to be 12 year old a birthday celebration today. We were going to have 5 pre-teens in the house having some girlie fun this evening. There was going to be spray in hair colour, nail polish, a fun movie and of course scrummy party tea but my 6 year old has English Measles. So we've had to postpone the party! Georgie shares her birthday with my big sis, so we were heading to my brothers for a shared birthday lunch before her friends arrived, sadly we'll be missing that too. But I'm here with you today, to share my DT creation for Sweet Stampin', so let's get to that. We have a great challenge theme this week. We want to see your 'Single Layer' cards. So I went all Scandi-chic CAS for my creation today. Let me know what you think.

This gorgeous Scandinavian inspired floral heart stamp is a clear stamp from Close to My Heart from their October 2013 Stamp of the Month. It has a beautiful design inspired by traditional Scandinavian cutwork. I love these beautiful traditional Scandinavian papercrafts and utterly fell in love with this set. It was a must have in my collection. I really need to use it more, as it really is pretty. I think it lends itself well to this very CAS card design too. A very quick and easy 'bang out a bunch' Christmas card design. If you look closely, the finishing touch to this CAS design, was a very simple, scored line around the edge of the card. The greeting is Swedish and translates to Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. I made this card for my Swedish pal and have a few really lovely Swedish sentiments which I bought from Bildmalarna before they closed. Another favourite stamp store I was sad to see close last year.

At the same time I made my DT card, I also did a super cute Forever Friends Bear stamp design too, in the same completely CAS one layer design. So here's that wee make too. Very quick job on the colouring and just the simple embossed border and a cute little sentiment from Stampendous. Simples!

I'll see you again really soon for another crafty adventure. Right now, I have to entertain a poorly boy and placate a sad wee party girl. We will have fun for sure when we do get to celebrate! But for now, it's hama bead fun and some family movie time. Have a fabulous weekend. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Southern Girls ~ Nature

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. I am swinging in today with a DT post for Southern Girls. This is a little different to what I would usually do, using diecuts for the main image, rather than a coloured image. Our lovely sponsor Krafter's Cart, sent the most gorgeous DT package to all the New Zealand crew of Southern Girls and I have quite a few cute goodies which I'll be creating with over the next few weeks. Our challenge theme is 'Nature'. So I thought outside the box a bit and went with 'Human Nature' and what better aspect of Human Nature to draw upon than falling in love?! There are of course some delish treats of 'Nature' in the creation too with this lovely My Mind's Eye paper from the Indie Chic collection called Saffron. I diecut a cute mushroom grass border to add that extra little element of 'Nature'. This wee die is from the #6 Magnolia Doohickey Club Magazine release.

I inked the doily with a metallic green paint and then decided it was too bright for this creation and coloured over it with my burnt orange Promarker. I love how it turned out a bit 'grungy' with hints of the green metallic still showing through. The little scattered hearts were diecut 'waste' from the Magnolia Doohickey Heart Flower Lace border die I used. I added a lovely bright orange satin ribbon for a pop of colour and the embossed sentiment was part of the lovely set of dies sent by Krafter's Cart from the set called 'For You With Love'. A very pretty shape and perfect sentiment for this love themed card.

I distressed the top and bottom border of the card and that was it. 'Fussy CAS', hehe, is there such a thing?! I hope you liked what I did for the challenge and I look forward to seeing what you create too, so come on over and play along. Stop by the blog for more inspiration from my madly talented teamies too. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure. Until then, have a fabulous week and happy crafting! Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Christmas Already?

Hey there my sweet blog pals. I have a fun post for you today which will help you get ahead and set up for this years Christmas cards. I know, I know, don't groan, we've only just waved goodbye to Christmas. Well, I don't know about you, but I need all the help I can get through the year to inspire me to create for Christmas. So just as we did last year, Fab 'n' Funky is having a monthly Christmas theme. You can create anything you like, as long as it's for Christmas. We have the wonderful Di's Digi Stamps sponsoring us too, so a great prize is up for grabs! I made these two cards a while back and never posted. So today you get a twofer!

When I'm creating in bulk for Christmas the designs have to be quick and repeatable. So these two are very pared back CAS cards. The top card is using a digital paper, simple flatback pearls to the corners and the cutest wee Snowman with his giant Brighton Rock heart candy. I've added glossy accents to the heart to make it look like a candy cane heart. It totally makes me think of Brighton Rock. I love his cute Satsuma nose which so makes me think of The Snowman. I love that sweet animation and I sent a snowman stuffy home years ago to one of my nephews, which I found out some years later, became his favourite ever soft toy. So warm happy thoughts being evoked by this make for me. I'll be humming the theme now all day! Hehe. I coloured the snowman with my Promarkers, which looking at the hat, needed a bit more work on the blending! But that's what happens when I create in haste. I still love it though. This sweet Snowman is from the Pure Innocence range by MFT and is called Happy Heart Snowman. My snowman actually came as a freebie sometime back with a fab crafty digital magazine, this version has the stripes on the heart.

This second make uses the cutest Santa stamp from Whiff of Joy. I was so sad when that store closed, I really liked their images, so that was a truly sad day. I've loved this stamp for ages, but actually only used it this once, so I have to make a better effort at reusing lovely stamps I have. Looking at this make now, I should have added some blue around the image, but again, being a quick make, just kept it very CAS. It's not easy to see in this, but the yellow stars have a little glossy accents on them and Santa's fur trim was done with Liquid Applique and then puffed up with a heat tool. It's actually far more textured and puffy IRL. The gorgeous sentiment is from an old Amy R for CC Designs Sentiment set. I'll try to hunt down the actual name of the set soon.

Well I hope you're inspired to have an early start on your Christmas creations and I haven't sent you running to bury your head in pillows and scream 'la la la la'! If you're keen to get ahead on this years stash of Christmas cards, come and join in our challenge this week and show us whatcha got. Go checkout what my talented teamies and our lovely hostess Ginny got up to for this challenge. I can't wait to see what you'll do too. I'll be back again soon with another crafty adventure, but in the meantime, enjoy the rest of your week and happy crafting! Hugs, Wends xoxo

Sweet Stampin' ~ Masculine

Hello out there in the blogasphere. I hope you've been having a great week. So nice when the weekend rolls around isn't it?! Time for a new challenge at Sweet Stampin' to go live today and I'm here with my DT post for this. I made this card for a local pal who's a keen fisherman, when I say keen, I mean KEEN! He is the editor and chief of a New Zealand Fishing Magazine, and we've been privileged to have some of his catches passed on to us, yum! New Zealand waters Kingfish!! Delicious!! So when thinking of what to do for this Masculine themed challenge, I just knew this image was perfect, for HIM!! I paired it with a cheeky and fun sentiment from a Kraftin' Kimmie sentiment set. Leaving the rest pretty CAS. Just some lovely olive green twine and an appropriately nautical charm et voila!

I used my distress inks to colour this fabulous Lili of the Valley fisherman. Although I'm still very new to using distress inks to colour, I'm pleased with this card, even if I did leave slightly more white around the wee fisherman than I meant to, it just kinda works. So I didn't try to fix it.

Easy peasy challenge this week at Sweet Stampin', we are doing a 'Masculine' theme, so bring out all your boy/male creations and share them with us. Just remember there must be stamping on your card to qualify for the Top 3. I hope you'll pop over and join us, I look forward to seeing what you'll do. I'm just in from a lovely girlie night out, so apologies to my lovely teamies that my post was up a bit late, I forgot to schedule it! Have an awesome weekend and see you again soon. Hugs, Wends xoxo

Fab 'n' Funky ~ Wild About You

Hey there my lovely blog buddies. I'm here with another DT post today. It's my turn to play Challenge Hostess over at Fab 'n' Funky, which means I got to pick the theme! Never one to want to keep things simple, I decided on a theme that could be interpreted two ways! We have the most fabulous sponsor this week and their images are delish. So with this in mind, I wanted to open up the options for the DT to play to their hearts content with the theme. We were given gorgeous images by our sponsor The Paper Shelter to play with and the DT came up with some utterly fabulous creations.

I used a super cute image for my creation (it was popular among the DT) called Can't Take My Eyes Off You from the Featured Valentines Collection, which I coloured with my Promarkers. Isn't that image fab?! I just loved it and did my best to colour it up like hubby and me. Should have peppered the hair with grey, that would have been a little more realistic, LOL.

I used a Go Kreate die to cut the shape of the card. I really love these. No other set I've found has come close to the range of larger sizes these sets offer and I think they're fab. I used a lovely Kaisercraft set of papers for this card called Sandy Toes. The sentiment I pinched out of another set, as the one I pulled the papers out of was beachy and not offering the right sort of sentiment for this creation. I was so pleased with how well this toned considering it was from a different set! Now I don't want to come over all gushy, but this sentiment really is true of my hubby. He's the joker extraordinaire in my life, he keeps me smiling constantly and I knew when I found it, that this was the perfect sentiment to use on this card for him.

I've been having such trouble with my computer today, it keeps loosing connectivity, so it's taken me hours to do some very simple updates. I could have cried, when all the work I'd just done on our DT blog got overwritten. Not a clever thing that blogger allows two people to edit the same document unawares. A recipe for disaster me thinks. Anyone else had this happen? I'd love to know if there are any fixes you've employed to stop this happening. Wishing you all happy days and looking forward to seeing your take on this challenge. Be sure to click through to the challenge blog to check out all my amazingly talented teamies creations. See you again soon for another crafty adventure. Big hugs, Wends xoxo

As You Like It: Ribbon or Lace? (Gosh, I love both! But I probably use more ribbon on my makes than lace. There's always a ribbon that works. For this make, I've used a hessian ribbon, which works great on a male card. So I'm in the ribbon camp on this one.)
Simon Says Monday Challenge: Young At Heart (I think this theme is perfect for this 'young at heart' couple, as I still see us this way, yet our hair is now peppered with grey!)

Update: I made the Top 3 of Crafty Catz Challenge. So delighted!! Thank you ladies for the honour.
